  3. Casting is a process of producing solid 
  4. objects by pouring molten material into a 
  5. shaped mould and allowing it to cool. Casting
  6. is used to shape such materials as glass and 
  7. plastics, as well as metals and alloys. 
  8. The traditional method of casting metal is 
  9. sand casting. Using a model of the object to 
  10. be produced, a hollow mould is made in a damp
  11. sand and clay mix. Molten metal is then 
  12. poured into the mould, taking its shape when 
  13. it cools and solidifies. The sand mould is 
  14. broken up to release the casting.
